Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions Coloradans ask most about Colorado OnChain.

What is Colorado OnChain?

Colorado OnChain is a nonpartisan, volunteer-led civic education effort to put Colorado's state budget and spending on a permanent, public, verifiable record every Coloradan can check, from plan to payment. It is not affiliated with the State of Colorado.

What does plan to payment mean?

Plan to payment means a clear public trail from the adopted budget line through the agency and program to the actual payment, so any Coloradan can follow where dollars are meant to go and where they actually go.

Is Colorado OnChain nonpartisan?

Yes. Colorado OnChain is nonpartisan and volunteer-led. It does not endorse candidates or parties, and it is not affiliated with the State of Colorado.

How does the digital seal work?

Official public records are run through math that produces a short, unique code (a digital seal). That seal is posted to public blockchains with a timestamp. Change even one cent and the code changes, so anyone can check that the record still matches.

What stays off-chain?

Personal and confidential information never goes on-chain. Only public records, and their digital seals, are published.

What will Colorado OnChain not do?

We will not sell anything or ask anyone for money, endorse candidates or parties, or put personal information on-chain.

Who founded Colorado OnChain?

Will Carr of Evergreen, Colorado, founded Colorado OnChain as an unpaid volunteer. See the [About](/about) page.
